The IEA 4E Solid State Lighting Annex today published a new report promoting CIE’s new global test standard. The report, entitled “Application Study of CIE S 025/E:2015”, evaluates the new international standard for use by key stakeholders as the basis for measuring important quality and performance aspects of LED lighting products. The SSL Annex has concluded that the new CIE standard is suitable for its upcoming global interlaboratory comparison of goniophotometers.

Today the IEA 4E Solid State Lighting Annex published a new policy report titled “Lessons Learned Bringing LEDs to Market” which highlights dozens of initiatives that contributed to the promotion of quality, energy-efficient lighting in the SSL Annex member country markets.

Australia’s Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) Program has released a consultation regulation impact statement (RIS) considering policy options to improve the energy efficiency of residential and commercial lighting in Australia and New Zealand.

Following the previous 2013 interlaboratory comparison where 110 labs from around the world were compared for measurements of LED lighting products, the International Energy Agency’s Energy-Efficient End-use Equipment Solid State Lighting Annex (IEA 4E SSL Annex) is preparing to launch the 2017 Interlaboratory Comparison (IC 2017) for goniophotometer measurements.

The IEA 4E SSL Annex published seven new and updated “quality and performance tiers” for popular LED lamps and luminaires. These seven documents offer policy makers and programme administrators guidance on which parameters to consider and the levels that may be appropriate when specifying or regulating LED products. Parameters include efficacy, lifetime, light colour, durability, and many other metrics.

“Smart” lamps combine technology breakthroughs in wireless communications with light emitting diodes (LEDs) to provide many exciting consumer benefits. However, the standby energy use of “smart lamps” can be larger than the energy used for providing lighting, according to a new report from the IEA 4E Solid State Lighting Annex.
